Malta has been ranked 37th out if a total 137 economies by the Global Competitiveness report 2017-2018, as released by the World Economic Forum, having improved three places from the previously issued report. Malta has also seen a rapid growth in the financial services sector with an ever-growing number of players moving to Malta. The Island is holding its own and enhancing its role as a centre of excellence. Malta has sought and still seeks to attract business to Malta by developing a business friendly environment and being open to innovative ideas, the latest being the development of laws specific to Virtual Financial Assets and the Blockchain.
